Community Health Clinic

Background

In May 2005 HERA established a Community Health Clinic at the Sacred Heart Mission in St. Kilda. The inspiration to open an outpatient clinic arose during a 3 week stay of 16 HERA members at the M.L. Dhawale Memorial Homoeopathic Hospital in Palghar, India in early 2005. This 200 out-patient a day hospital had its humble beginnings as a one room community clinic a decade ago. HERA believes that it is through consistent positive clinical results that homeopathy can lift its profile in Australia and hopefully one day play a greater role in the health care system overall.

Mission statement

The Sacred Heart Homeopathic Community Health Clinic aims at providing professional homeopathic care to individuals whose economic situation does not allow them to otherwise access such services. Apart from offering safe and effective treatment options for a wide range of physical as well as mental-emotional ailments the clinic serves to provide an opportunity for post-graduate training in aspects of homeopathic practice.

Structure & student participation

The clinic times are currently Tuesdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

During each session at least one senior homeopathic physician is present as well as 1-2 junior practitioners. Cases are taken by the senior homeopathic physician as well as junior practitioners. A group approach is then taken to synthesise and analyse the case. ICR concepts can thereby be communicated to junior practitioners in a ‘real life’ setting, while the patients benefit from being under professional homeopathic care.
